World 5 takes place in the bamboo forest, where Alex and the rest of the team directly face Lord Iridium. In this world, the player can find the last of the missing kittens and return to World 1-1 to add Amy to the team.

Synopsis[edit]

After reaching the bamboo forest through the celestial elevator near Kaze Towers, Alex and the team are heading towards the water temple to find out more about the moon crystal and ultimately stop Lord Iridium. At an outpost, they encounter Captain Lace, who orders his ninja minions to attack them. Alex and the team escape and make their way to a monastery. A monk inside offers them the key to the water temple in exchange for finding a missing puzzle piece for a picture on the wall. Upon bringing back the missing piece from a nearby swamp, the team is given the key and they continue forth with their quest.

As the team ventures farther into the water temple, the moon crystal around Luna's neck starts to flash. The team pauses to observe when Alex makes a comment that something is wrong with the ceiling. Upon looking up, they observe that a large body of floating water looms over their heads. Alex urges the team to keep going, claiming that they are getting close to the source of the moon crystal.

Now deep inside the water temple, Alex and Luna notice a distant silhouette of a cat on a crescent moon, which Alex assumes to be the reason as to why the moon crystal is shining. Their observations are interrupted when Lord Iridium stomps into the room, ready to take the moon crystal. Alex defends Luna and he and Lord Iridium engage in battle. Lord Iridium is defeated, but as he moves closer towards Alex, Luna intervenes and begins floating. The power of the moon crystal causes the floor to give way, and Alex and Lord Iridium fall through.

Alex regains consciousness at a ledge below the upper floor. Shinji approaches him and states that Lord Iridium could not survive a fall, presumably down the pit past the ledge. Alex and Shinji reunite with the rest of the team. They start to leave the temple as Alex pauses to stare back at the room now crumbling to ruins before dashing out.

At the bottom of the pit, Lord Iridium lies, broken in half. While the temple continues to break down, the presence of Dark Matter surrounds him.

5-1: Bamboo Forest[edit]

This level introduces several new enemies not encountered in the game beforehand while traversing around and up tall bamboo trees. These new enemies include rabbits that run away when the player approaches, pollen creatures that disperse hazardous pollen when killed and ninjas.

Collectables[edit]

  • Bell 1 - The first bell is found in the first area, at the top part of a bamboo tree trunk. To reach it, the player should climb up the trunk of the tree to the right of the first pollen creature encountered. Equipping Olli's cloak, they should glide onto the side of the adjacent tree trunk. (There should be three coins on the ground between these two trees and a flying pollen enemy.) The bell will be at the top of the left tree. The player can use any cat except for Olli to collect this bell.
  • Bell 2 - In the second area, the player will see a set of three trees in close proximity to each other next to a ledge. The player should ascend up the left passage, which has two ninjas throwing stars on either end above two coins. The bell is at the top of the leftmost tree in the set.
  • Bell 3 - In the third area, the player should climb up the right notch of the first wooden structure and equip Olli's cloak. Using any cat except for Olli, the player should glide to the right, which will allow them to catch the side of the small ledge of the adjacent structure. The player can then climb up and continue to the right, allowing them to climb up the top of some bamboo trees. The player can also use the spinning platforms among the flying pollen enemies and ninjas to boost themselves upwards, off the screen. This will transport them to a different area, where only the tops of the trees and parts of the trunks are visible. The player should move towards the nearest platform with coins and continue in that horizontal direction to a treetop with the bell on it while avoiding flying pollen enemies along the way.

5-2: Muddy Swamp[edit]

This level features muddy patches and pools of water. Kappa and frogs dominate most of the areas. There is also a cave accessible by waterfall in the first area.

Collectables[edit]

  • Bell 1 - Found at the far right of the first area. The player should equip the shovel and dig up the clod of dirt.
  • Bell 2 - After falling down the waterfall, the player should proceed left into the cave. The bell will be on a small ledge made of blocks at the end of the cave.
  • Bell 3 - When the player proceeds to the right of the waterfall, they should use Olli to kill the large brown frog, thus granting them a bell.

5-3: Hot Springs[edit]

This level features many pools of water and waterfalls, where monkeys and kappa are the predominant enemies.

Collectables[edit]

  • Bell 1 - Before going down the smaller waterfalls in the second area, the player should go past the rightmost kappa and use Alex to climb up the wall and reach a small ledge on the left side with the bell.
  • Bell 2 - At the bottom of the second area, once the player has descended all the waterfalls, they should proceed to the left leading to three sets of spinning platforms with white monkeys at the centre of almost all of them. The bell is at the centre of the topmost spinning platform.
  • Bell 3 - In the area directly to the right of the waterfalls, the bell is at the bottom of a pool of water, surrounded by spike creatures. Monkeys sleep at the surface of the water, just below a set of hanging ropes.

Secret exit[edit]

This level contains access to the secret level of World 5. To reach it, the player should go to the second waterfall, to the right of the three sleeping monkeys in the first area. They should climb up the small grey block to the right of the waterfall and equip Olli's cloak. This will allow the player to glide to the left and catch the adjacent wall, to which they can begin to climb upwards. Although any cat except for Olli and Brutus can reach the red checkered spot, using Alex allows the player to cover more vertical distance and decrease the likelihood of them falling to the ground. The red checkered spot will be on the left ledge.

5-?: Secret Falls[edit]

This secret area contains two enemies - sleeping monkeys - resting at the surface of the water to the right of the player's starting point. The player is given the opportunity to encounter Mia taking a bath in one of the springs.

Collectables[edit]

  • Bell 1 - On the platform directly to the right of the sleeping monkeys, the player should equip the balloon, allowing them to ascend and land on the yellow platform. They should run to the left, breaking the small block barrier, continuing until they reach a patch of red tulips. A clod of dirt is among these tulips, and digging it up with a shovel will uncover a bell.
  • Bell 2 - The player should head to the right of the yellow platform, which will take them through a narrow passageway leading to the hot spring where Mia is resting. When the player is close to Mia, they can equip the magic flute to wake her up. Embarrassed to see that she has visitors, Mia gives the player a bell in exchange for leaving her alone.
  • Bell 3 - This bell is found at the bottom of the level, accessible on the same elevation as the player's starting point. Instead of ascending, the player should continue to the right until they see a narrow passageway. Using Amy, they can crawl inside and pick up a bell at the bottom of the pool of water.

5-4: Ninja Outpost[edit]

In this level, the player faces the Tin Army, along with many ninjas. The stage ends with the player fighting large spiked soldiers and ninjas while riding in a tank.

Collectables[edit]

  • Bell 1 - The player should equip Alex and use the first bamboo tree encountered in the first area to climb up the side of the wooden structure to the right. Once at the top of the structure, they can continue right past two pairs of jumping soldiers and up the trunk of another bamboo tree with a star-throwing ninja on it. The player should climb to the top of this tree, then run-jump to the right continuously until they reach a wooden structure with a bell on top of it.
  • Bell 2 - This bell is found in the second area, at the far right where the fence leading to the third area is encountered. There are two trees close to each other, creating a narrow vertical passage, with no enemies present on either tree. The player must either equip the balloon to boost themselves upwards or do some careful platforming from the treetops and collect the bell from a bubble at the top.
  • Bell 3 - After dismounting from the tank, the player should climb up the nearby crate to get onto the side of the tree trunk on the right and back left to the top of the wooden structure. They should continue left, jumping on any wooden structures and the tops of trees where needed. This will lead to an enclosed area where the bell can be obtained, among two spiked soldiers.
  • Kitten - Max is found in the second area. Up the stairs, the player should use Alex to climb up the tree trunk with a star-throwing ninja on it, using the adjacent wooden structure to boost. Using Olli's cloak at the top of the tree, the player should glide to the left, which will lead them into an alcove where Max is hidden. Assuming the player collects all the kittens in order, they can return to World 1-1 after completing this level to get Amy.

5-🏠: Old Monastery[edit]

The Old Monastery has many monks and ogres. Inside a larger temple, the player will encounter a floating monk who can grant the player the key to the water temple in exchange for finding a missing puzzle piece.

Collectables[edit]

  • Bell 1 - In the first area, the player should use Amy and make their way to the right. A narrow passage will be encountered near a picture of Amy's head, leading to a bell and an ogre.
  • Bell 2 - The bell is at the top of the large temple in the second area. The player should use Alex and equip Olli's cloak to glide to the right off the rooftop next to the entrance to the large temple. From there, they can climb upwards until they reach the roof.
  • Key 3 - Found inside the large temple. The player must obtain the puzzle piece from World 5-6 and return to this building to gain the key.

5-6: Return to the Swamp[edit]

This level features bodies of water with frogs and kappa lurking in them. The player must obtain the puzzle piece here to bring back to the floating monk in the Old Monastery. If they do not obtain the puzzle piece, they will be unable to enter the water temple in the proceeding level.

Collectables[edit]

  • Bell 1 - The first bell is seen at the top of a tree trunk at the start of the first area, next to three coins. To reach it, the player must climb out of the water on the right side and up onto inside of the tree trunk above ground. Using Olli's cloak, they can glide to the left among the disjointed platforms to reach the bell.
  • Puzzle 2 - The puzzle piece is found at the end of the second area, just before the entrance to the cave (ie. the third area). It is blocked by trap doors, which need to be opened by pushing two blue levers. These are located at the top of two elevated platforms, one on either side of two revolving green platforms.
  • Bell 3 - The third bell requires a shovel to obtain and can be found in a nearby clod of dirt to the left of the finish pad.

5-7: Water Temple 1[edit]

The player enters the water temple, a building that is partially submerged in water. As a result, many of the enemies present are fish and urchins. A group of giant brown frogs can be seen towards the end of the level.

The first part of this level requires the player to descend into the water at the start of the temple to flip a lever at the bottom. This will cause the water to rise, allowing the player to proceed to the highest door.

Collectables[edit]

  • Bell 1 - When the player enters the water temple, they should dive down into the water. The bell is located on the centerpiece of the fire chain on the bottom right.
  • Bell 2 - At the bottom of the water in the entrance of the water temple, above the lever, is an alcove lined with urchins. The player needs to use Shinji to swim against the current to collect the bell.
  • Bell 3 - In the third room of the water temple, the bell can be seen directly to the right of the door, obstructed by a narrow passageway. The player can use Amy to get this bell.

5-8: Water Temple 2[edit]

This level requires that the player collect 100 bells cumulatively before it can be unlocked. The player continues their journey into the water temple, and in some areas, the water can be seen above the player rather than below. The stage ends with the player fighting Lord Iridium.

Collectables[edit]

  • Bell 1 - In the first area in the water, the bell is on a block above a set of three coins, partially hidden by some seaweed. It is the first block in the middle that is encountered.
  • Bell 2 - When the player reaches the top of the first room, instead of going through the door on the right, they can use Amy to fit through the narrow passageway on the left. This leads to a smaller area with some Tin Army soldiers. The bell is found at the bottom of the water on the right side.
  • Bell 3 - The bell is in the long vertical room when entering through the door on the right from the first room. On the way to Lord Iridium to the right, the player will come across two blue levers and some shut doors. The player must go underneath the platform, among the squids, to quickly activate both levers so that they can access the bell inside.
