The map is an item in Shovel Pirate that can be obtained in all levels except Level 1.

Physical appearance

The map item is rectangular and a yellow-orange color. It is slightly longer, vertically on the left and right sides, giving it a scroll-like appearance. A large red X is marked in the top-right corner. For maps that are broken in half, a broken dotted dark brown line will be seen in place of where the map area would be, and part of the X is split between the halves.

Behavior

The map is found as an item either as a whole or in two parts and will remain with the player for the duration of the level. When collected, it will display a map at the top of the screen showing landmarks such as trees, headstones and ladders. A red X indicates gems that are uncollected and will disappear upon obtaining them. Landmarks are shown in relation to each other horizontally, but their actual placement vertically as well as the gaps between them are approximate.

For maps that are split in half, picking up one part will only show the gems for either the left or the right half of the level. The map at the top of the screen will be shown with a stitch in the middle even when both halves are obtained.

Out of Shovel Pirate's 15 levels, 10 levels have whole maps and 4 levels have partial maps.

2	Whole	Found on the sand to the right of the second sign post, past the first snake.
3	Whole	Found to the right of the locked door near the start of the level.
4	Whole	Found resting on a flat tree branch directly above the first headstone. The player can reach it by walking and jumping off the grassy ledge to the left of the branch.
5	Broken	Left: Found at the top of the leftmost palm tree. Right: Found on top of some pink bricks above a small set of steps created by the gray wavy surfaces.
6	Whole	Found in between the top of two ladders, to the right of the mice running back and forth.
7	Broken	Left: Found on the first set of pink blocks between the two traps. Right: Found enclosed within a small alcove at the bottom of two ladders. The player can descend and walk to the left, then break the bricks while avoiding or defeating the nearby snake.
8	Whole	Found on the tree branch directly above the first flamethrower. The player can access it by approaching it from the right side using the second flamethrower as a stool and jumping to the tree branch on the left. The screen will pan to the right, revealing a concealed third fence to the right of the flag pole leading to the gem.
9	Whole	Found on top of two horizontally aligned flamethrowers above a skeleton.
10	Whole	Found in between the two trees with monkeys on it on the outer left side of the level.
11	Broken	Left: Found on a grassy platform to the left of the first monkey encountered. The player can access it by going up the ladder to the left, where another monkey on a palm tree will be seen on the far left. Right: Found on top of a set of pink blocks above the area where four mice run back and forth.
12	Broken	Left: Found within the enclosed area to the bottom left blocked off by bricks with a mouse inside. Right: Found on top of a palm tree next to a flamethrower. To access it, the player should continue to the right and climb up the ladder while avoiding the flamethrowers. They should then go to the left of the locked door, where a hidden passage can be encountered, allowing the player to reach the upper pink blocks and the other half of the map.
13	Whole	Found at the start of the level by digging the blocks below, accessible by descending a ladder.
14	Whole	Found on top of the leftmost pink blocks nearby a tree with a monkey.
15	Whole	Jump up the grassy platforms and use the branch to the right to reach the ledge on the top-right with the map.

Trivia

• In Level 2, the player is required to collect the map item and cannot jump over it.
