Market
The market is a type of room in Yokai Dungeon. It allows the player to equip one item that has an effect on gameplay or the rooms.
Layout[edit]
In each area, one square on the map is guaranteed to be the market. Once visited, the location is marked with an orange bag icon until the player moves onto the next area.
The market consists of an inside perimeter shaped like a portrait-oriented rectangle that is fenced off around all areas except for two sides in the middle. Within the enclosed area is a woman[1] with three items laid out in front of her, with the middle item being concealed in a locked box. There are three white question marks on the ground, one in front of each item.
The outside of the perimeter has some decorative trees and blocks, as well as chickens that the player can chase around. An NPC will always be seen outside the perimeter at the front of the room.
Behaviour[edit]
Upon entering the market, the player will automatically be spawned in front of the shop lady, where she will bow and greet them. The player can then view a description of the items presented by standing on the question mark. Walking over the item will automatically equip it and be displayed in the top-left corner of the screen. The player can also review the item's function in the pause menu.
Players can only have one item equipped at a time. Equipping a new item will replace the previously equipped one and leave it on the market's display, where the player can return to take back the previous item as long as they have not cleared the world.
Rare item[edit]
Rare items are presented in a locked box in the middle and require players to watch an ad before opening unless they have the Premium upgrade. They generally provide greater enhancements over the regular items. When standing over the question mark while the box is still in tact, the market lady will always say, "Rare Secret Item". Touching the front of the box will reveal the item inside, and standing over the question mark in this state will display the item's description.
Items[edit]
In the game's code, items are divided into three categories:
- Health - These items affect the player's invincibility or their ability to gain lives. They appear as different types of foods.
- Attack - These items affect the behaviour of minions, boss health or the spawning of hourglass or bomb blocks. They appear as different types of weapons or masks.
- Luck - These items affect the player's luck status or any miscellaneous abilities including walking speed and resistance to certain hazards or surfaces. They mainly appear as different types of footwear or real-life items associated with luck.
There are 52 items in total that can be encountered in-game.
Unused items[edit]
Two items exist in the game's files with names and descriptions, but are not seen in-game.

Trivia[edit]
- When the player stands directly behind the market lady and faces forward, she will look visibly uncomfortable after a while.
- The market is the only room where death will not spawn if the player enters and stays in the room for a long duration. However, it is still possible to have death chase the player in the market if they revisit when death has spawned in another room.
- Alex's bell is a reference to the bell item in the main games of the Super Cat Tales series.
